monthly meeting


Fr. Leonard opened the meeting with a prayer.

Ivette Parachinni welcomed everyone and introduced this year's Board.  She also introduced Mr. Gomprecht and Mrs. Napoli.

Mr. Gomprecht spoke about the building improvements and gave us a wonderful tour of the new classrooms on the third floor and the new labs, terrace and greenhouse on the 4th floor.

Byrne Sleeper spoke about the Tuition Raffle. She was looking for people to buy tickets and people to volunteer to help sell. The tickets are $100 each and they will not sell more than 410 tickets. Tickets will be sold at Mothers Club monthly meetings and events. You can buy online starting Oct 1st. The winner will drawn at the Winter Party in January.

Brenda Dennany spoke about the Freshman Moms Meeting to be held on Oct.7th at 7:30 pm in the Commons. Speakers will include Mr. Gomprecht, Mrs. Napoli, Mr. Carrney and Mr. Ahearn. There will be sign ups for all Mothers Club events.

Christy Sturges spoke about the Teacher Appreciation program. We provide a welcome back breakfast for the teachers, a Christmas Cookie table in December and brunch in May. Look for information about how you can help or contact Christy.

April Debard reported on the Christmas celebration. It will be held Dec. 3rd in the Commons. They will be looking for baskets for the raffle and they will accepting toy donations that evening.

Byrne Sleeper described the Morning of Spiritual Renewal that takes place during Lent. Details will follow.

Ivette was looking foe volunteers for Open House in November. We need mothers from different geographical areas to man a Transportation Table, answering questions on what means of transportation are available to students who would like to attend Fordham Prep.

Ann Bave was unable to attend but submitted the following Corresponding Secretary's Report:

• As Corresponding Secretary I organized the incoming Freshman Mothers by Zip Code and invited each of them to a coffee hosted by FP mothers. There are approximately 260 mothers/guardians that have been invited to coffee on Thursday, September 10th at one of 12 different locations. The purpose of the coffees is for freshman mothers to meet other incoming mothers in their zip code as well as to have a chance to meet a current an experienced FP mother. Thank you to the FP hostesses who have agreed to host these coffees.

• A sympathy note was sent to Gerry Downey whose husband died in August of Cancer,

In addition we made a $100.00 donation to the American Cancer Society of behalf of the FPMC in memory of Mr. Downey. Mrs. Downey is in the attendance office and she helps the FPMC all year long

• A sympathy note was sent to Joan Wollman whose mother died in August.  Mrs. Wollman is The Director of Annual Giving and is a great asset to the FPMC.

• The first group emails of the school year were sent to notify members of the September meeting and asking for any deletions or corrections.  We will be making a group email list, which can be used, for various committees who would like to send a group email.

Ivette closed the meeting by thanking all of those who came for their help in getting our mailing out. It was one of the largest turnouts anyone could remember.  

The next meeting is Oct 21st in the Commons. We will decorate pumpkins to be delivered to the nursing home. All are welcome to attend.

freshman mothers meeting

Brenda Denneny welcomed the freshman moms and instructed them to sit at tables designated by zip code. 

Father Leonard led everyone in a prayer

Ivette Parachinni welcomed everyone and introduced the Board.  She then introduced  Mrs. Napoli, Mr Aherrn and Mr. Gomprecht.

Mrs. Napoli, Assistant Principal for Academics and Student Life, gave an overview of her role and how she could be of assistance to the boys and the parents.

Mr. Ahearn, Assistant Principal for Faculty Development  and Supervision, discussed his role and the role of the faculty. 

Mr. Gomprecht, Principal,  welcomed the moms and answered any questions that they had. 

Colleen Wagner spoke for Mr. Carney from Campus Ministry.  She explained the freshman retreat in March and asked for help from the moms to prepare a dinner for the freshman during the retreat.

Brenda them called on the various committee heads to speak to the moms about the Mother's Club events for the year.

Christmas Celebration-April DeBard:  This event is held on December 3rd in the Commons.  She is looking for help with basket donations, dessert donations, raffle tickets, decoration and clean up.

Winter Party- Erica Graham:  This event will be held on January 23rd.  It is a couples event.  Traditionally it has been held at the Prep, but we are looking for a new venue.  She was looking for volunteers to help.

Morning of Spiritual Renewal- Colleen Wagner & Byrne Sleeper:  This morning of reflecton during Lent will take place on March 20th.  They are looking for people to donate food  and drinks for the breakfast and lunch served.

Teacher Appreciation Days-Christy Sturgis:  Christy is looking for baked goods for the Christmas Cookie Table and people to help set up for the Brunch in May 

Fashion Show-Ellen Smith & Courtney Donohue:  The date for this years Fashion Show is April 22,2010.  We have a new location this year, Marina Del Ray in the Bronx.  The theme is "Bridge to the Bronx".  Lots of help is needed.

Communion Supper- Lucy Venia:  This event is held in May and honors the senior mothers.  All are invited to attend the Mass and dinner.

Tuition Raffle- Byrne Sleeper: Tickets are available to buy on line.  They are $100 per ticket and give you a chance to win a years tuition at the Prep or  $12,000.  Byrne is looking for help selling at teacher conferences and the Turkey Bowl on Thanksgiving.

Brenda wrapped up the meeting by thanking all for coming and she asked everyone to look over the sign up sheets and volunteer where they could.

monthly meeting

Father Leonard opened the meeting with a prayer.

Mothers Club President Ivette Paracchini welcomed Mrs. Napoli and Mr. Gomprecht.

Mrs. Napoli reported: The end of the quarter and report card distribution were coming up. She reminded parents that National Honor Society Tutors are available. Conferences will be held on Nov.19th from 12 to 4 and 6 to 9. No appointments just come and wait on line.

Senior Internship program for the 4th quarter is looking for parents, alumni etc. to provide an internship for a prep senior. The program runs from March 29th thru May 12th and they are looking to work about 6 hours a day.

Mr. Gomprecht reported:

Open House in early November was a success. They changed the presentation this year and the tours showed off the new labs. The open house was well attended and Fordham Prep continues to draw applicants from many areas.

The Prep is now part of the Fordham University Security Communication System. This new relationship with Fordham U will keep the Prep and Prep students informed in case of an emergency.

Curriculum Review is ongoing at Fordham Prep. We are in the midst of a multi-year curriculum review.

Mr. Gomprecht will be attending the annual Jesuit Principals Meeting. Fifty principals from Jesuit High Schools all over the country will meet in New Orleans.

The Prep has plans to ensure that the academics continue in the event of a Swine Flu outbreak. The Internet and Moodle will be used.

The All Saints Day Mass will be held in the University Church on Friday Nov.6th.

Ivette Parachinni introduced the Guest Speaker, Patricia Carrera a Financial Consultant for AXA Equitable. She spoke about scholarships available to seniors from AXA. The scholarships are one-time payments of approximately $2,000, and there are 12 awarded by each branch. The awards determined based on your community service. The Deadline for this year is DEC.15th. Committee Reports:

April De Bard reported on the Christmas Party set for December 3rd. We need baskets for the raffle. They can be left in the attendance office. Please come it's a great night. Remember to bring an unwrapped toy to be collected by the Fordham University Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Anne Bave, Corresponding Secretary, submitted the following report: I AM COMPILING EMAIL ADDRESSES TO CORRESPOND WITH MEMBERS ABOUT MEETINGS AND EVENTS. PLEASE CHECK THE LIST OF EMAIL ADDRESSES THAT BOUNCED.

POT HOLDERS - FOR SALE $12.00 EACH. SERVICE PROJECT WITH MY SON LIAM ('10) TO BENEFIT OPERATION SMILE AND TUTWILER QUILTERS. TUTWILER QUILTERS was organized in 1988 in Tutwiler, Mississippi by two nuns so that the quilters in the area would have an outlet to sell their pieces and support their families. In addition to the quilted potholders that Fordham Prep is selling they make fabulous quilts and other quilted items.

OPERATION SMILE is a worldwide children's medical charity that is dedicated to improving the lives of children born with cleft palates and other facial deformities.

PUMPKINS - THANK YOU TO HARRIET GRIFFIN FOR COORDINATING THE DECORATING OF THE PUMPKINS. MR. HOMER AND THE BOYS DELIVERED THEM TO THE WEIGEL CENTER, WHICH IS THE INFIRMARY FOR THE JESUITS ON CAMPUS AS WELL AS TO THE ROSEHILL APARTMENT, WHICH IS THE RESIDENCE FOR THE ELDERLY BEHIND CAMPUS. MR. HOMER ASKED ME TO THANK EVERYONE AND SAID THE PUMPKINS WERE LIKE "PURE GOLD" PLEASE SEE PHOTO SLIDE SHOW ON THE LAPTOP

Christie Sturgis discussed the Christmas Cookie Buffet for the teachers in December. Please consider making a plate of cookies to donate. If you plan to donate please contact Christie.

Byrne Sleeper was not able to attend the meeting, so Lucy Venia discussed the Tuition Raffle. Please buy your ticket.

Erica talked about the Winter Party Scheduled for January 23rd. It will be at FJ Pine in the Bronx. Invitations will be mailed home. It will be fun evening with food, drink and dancing to a DJ. There will be a live and silent auction. Think about any items you may like to donate, especially sports related items.
