February 10, 2010

Dear Fordham Prep Mothers and Guardians,

We’d like to thank all of the “holiday bakers” for providing delicious treats for the faculty and staff. A special thank you to Christie Sturges for setting up the festive display of cookies in the faculty room for all to enjoy. The entire Administration and Staff greatly appreciated your delicious cookies, hard work and enthusiasm. It looks like this will be a tradition, which will be followed in years to come!

On Saturday, January 23rd we celebrated our Winter Wonderland and Tuition Raffle Party at F&J Pine Restaurant in the Bronx.  It was a sold out event in which Prep parents participated in a silent auction, live auction and a few games of chance.  The fabulous evening was filled with great music, lots of dancing and delicious food.  A special thank you to Erica Graham and her group of volunteers, to the Fathers’ Club for joining forces and coordinating the Silent Auction and many thanks to our Auctioneer, Cary Sleeper, who helped to the success of the event.  The highlight of the evening was the tuition raffle drawing that raised nearly $19,000.  Congratulations to the Grinnell family who won $12,000.  Thanks to Byrne Sleeper for coordinating the raffle sales.

Coming up on Saturday, March 20th is the Morning of Spiritual Renewal.  This is a morning where you can take some time for quiet reflection and prayer during the Lenten season.  Join other Prep parents and guardians at Mass and for a talk by an inspirational speaker.  A light breakfast and lunch will be served.  You will be receiving an invitation in the mail soon.

The Annual Dinner and Fashion Show will be on Thursday, April 22nd at Marina del Rey in Throgs Neck.  This is our biggest event of the year.  The Committees are hard at work and need your help in participating as a donor or volunteering your time, energy or special talent. For more details, please check out our website.

Lastly, with the school year more than half over, we are beginning to plan for next year.  Please see the letter below regarding nominations for next year’s Executive Board.  I urge you to consider volunteering for one of the available positions.  It’s a great opportunity to help the Mothers’ Club continue the fine tradition started in 1966.

As always, thanks for your continued support!

Best,

Ivette

board nominating letter

Dear Mothers and Guardians,

The Fordham Prep Mothers’ Club is preparing for the 2010-2011 school year by accepting nominations for Executive Board positions.  The responsibility of the Board is to help “promote and advance the best interest of Fordham Prep in its religious, educational and charitable functions…”

We are accepting nominations for:

•    President

Executive Vice President (Fashion Show Chair)

    Vice President

    Recording Secretary

    Assistant Treasurer

    Financial Secretary

    Corresponding Secretary

    Website Coordinator

Please see descriptions of these positions below.

To date, the FPMC has sponsored the Freshman Mothers Welcome, Christmas Celebration, Winter Party and Tuition Raffle Party.  For the remainder of this year, we will also sponsor the Senior Mother-Son Valentine Dance, Morning of Spiritual Renewal, Fashion Show, Communion Supper and End of the Year Book Fair.

None of this would be possible without the generous volunteers who have given their time to plan, coordinate and organize these events.  Will you consider spending a few hours each month meeting with other Fordham Prep moms and guardians to help with these charitable, educational and spiritual events?  It’s a great opportunity to meet others in the Prep community and to help support the school that gives so much to our sons.

If you’d like to volunteer for one of these Executive Board positions or to nominate someone, please e-mail Mary Hillery, Nominating Committee Chair at maryhillery08@aol.com or call her at 917-797-6302.

Thank you for your support.

Best,

Ivette M. Paracchini
President
